The stock gear setup on the Suzuki DR650 is 15 teeth front sprocket and 42 teeth rear sprocket in 525 width.
 
Doing a "520 conversion" is a popular option for the bike to save some weight, cost, and be able to find chains more easily when you travel. But for the front sprocket, there is only one way to do it right and that's with the famous "JT Wide Boss".
 
This particular 520 sprocket keeps the same base width of a 525 sprocket (10mm). If you use a regular 520 sprocket that can fit the DR, it's narrower on your shaft as well, and risks damaging the splines over time. Replacing your drive shaft is no small task!
 
Even though the bike is quite torquey, a good-quality 520 chains do not wear faster on this bike, and it's much easier to find and less costly to replace the chain when needed.

If you want to go a tad more toward off-road/slow speed/torque, going for a 14x42 or 43T is great. You'll still cruise at a reasonable highway speed without too high rpm.
 
If you want to prioritize commuting/road manners and taming down vibrations at highway speed, keep the 15T but go smaller in the back like a 38, 39, 40T.
